12/2/2008 - Indiana Main Street has accepted the request of the town of Upland, Indiana to join their community development program. On December 18th the organization, Our Town Upland, Inc., will be recognized officially at the Indiana State House.
Indiana Main Street, a program underneath the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), is designed to encourage economic development, redevelopment, and improvement of downtown areas in the small towns of the state of Indiana. By offering resources such as downtown enhancement grants and technical assistance programs, Indiana Main Street hopes to stimulate growth and revitalization in disheartened downtown areas with great potential.
Our Town Upland, Inc. will be attending the Downtown Enhancement Grant Ceremony held by OCRA on Thursday, December 18 at 10:00 a.m. to be recognized as a member of the Indiana Main Street program. The program will be held at the Indiana State House in the North Atrium, which is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Our Town Upland, Inc. feels honored to join Indiana Main Street in order to improve the downtown area of Upland, Indiana. The mission of Our Town Upland, Inc. is to actively promote tourism, commerce, educational and charitable activities within the town of Upland.
Established in 2005, the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) strives to focus on improving rural areas in the state of Indiana. Indiana Main Street is administered by OCRA under the leadership of Lt. Governor Becky Skillman.
- Dec. 18 – Traveled to State House to be recognized as a Main Street Community
- Dec. 18 – Field Trip to Greenfield Main Street Community – toured town, visited a one million dollar theatre restoration
- Dec.-Requested that Upland Town Board adopt a “Local Preservation Ordinance”
- Contacted in 2008 – Taylor SIFE students have requested to create a website for us – to be completed in 2009
